Kon. Jimmy Vista PDF Print E-mail
Written by Arlene Icasiano

There was never a dull moment listening to him speak…pondering on the essentials, laughing at his own antics, observations and achievements. Councilor Jimmy Vista is the man who dared dream and conquered more than he sought…
He was born in Tanay, Rizal on
March 2, 1965 to Mr. Serafin M. Vista and the former Jacinta Bautista Of Tanay, Rizal Philippines. He went to the University of the Philippines in 1984 to pursue a degree in Fine Arts, unfortunately, he discontinued due to financial difficulties. Determined to pursue his dream on becoming an artist, he displayed his artworks in front of the San Ildefonso Church and sold as many as he can. Most of his works were influenced by the spontaneity and directness of Impressionism, but he created most of his artwork the way he saw his subject matter (Realism), faithfully represented with emotional, social and environmental significance. In fact, many of his outstanding artworks are exact representation of Tanay’s natural Sceneries, such as  “Daranak Falls”, “ Daraetan River” “Tanay Landscapes” etc. To him, understanding the composition in relation to balance and details are necessary.

His was a gradual yet steady climb to fame and success;  He stayed on track, overcame obstacles until he was recognized in 1985 when San Ildefonso College cited him as Best Artist of the Year. He also started joining major art competitions and was adjudged as Finalist in the Metrobank Art Competition in 1986. In 1987. He joined Lakeshore Artist Group in their art exhibition held at the Manila Hotel. These opened doors for international recognition as he has been chosen to represent the Philippines in various international art competitions held in Malaysia, Hongkong, Singapore and China. After living up to his potentials, he was recognized and awarded the Hall of Fame for Filipino Watercolorist. Rosters of awards also followed such and recognition from various art governing bodies started pouring in. He has became known giving him a winning edge on, at least, fourteen “One Man Show” held at lucrative venues like the Phil-Am Life , Manila Peninsula Hotel and the Manila Hotel. He is currently the Director of the Philippine Watercolor Society and President of the Tanay Artist Group.

He started his political career in 2001 as Councilor for the Sangguniang Bayan of Tanay. His love for the arts and Tanay manifested in the proposed bills he authored and passed. Such was an ordinance prohibiting game hunting within the prescribed areas in  Tanay reserved for wildlife and bird sanctuary and protection; A resolution to establish a “town museum” to showcase the culture and arts of Tanay ; a proposal that has been approved and is currently under development. He also proposed to establish  Tanay Artist Village”  that will provide affordable housing privileges for Tanay artists, and at the same time, to serve as a display village cum open market place, to promote art tourism in Tanay. Pondering on his vision, he boasted “ if Angono has gained the reputation of being the art capital of the
Philippines, then Tanay will become the first “Artist Village” of the Philippines”.

Despite, fame and success, humility, sensibility and humor prevail.  He remained firm and well footed. “Discipline” as his greatest asset. His present international stature as much as his hall of fame award didn’t prevent him to harness continuous learning, experimenting and adapting modernism to his art. “dreams are endless when it comes to art”, he stated matter-of-factly. Advocating change as a catalyst for keeping up with the ever-changing trend in style and color, especially in the international art arena is among his strong  business principle.

Councilor Jimmy Vista is married to former Miss Elizabeth Bendana and father to five equally talented children- Ildefonso 17, Geemel,14, Jayvee,11, Maria Jayzmel, 7, and Jervin,3. His family is his utmost inspiration. His barest essential; For him, simplicity forbids him on dreaming further; contentment for him is a virtue. For what he has are his essentials, until perhaps, other door shall open. Who knows?

Homegrown artists from Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas ( BSP ) have invited me not only once to watch your "One Man Exhibit" at Philam Life way way back. Unfortunately, I was not able to go with them. I even read about and view some of your paintings from major circulations. I was so proud that I knew who they're talking about. It was you Jimmy Vista whom I personally know.
