Just a short trek upwards from Daranak Falls, another natural beauty welcomes you - Batlag Falls, a privately owned resort, which offers everything Daranak has, same rates, complete with the same amenities except for an overnight stay for a small additional extra fee which Daranak does not offer. So, if you really do want to get really close to nature by spending a night, Batlag might be best suited for you.

Batlag Falls is more quieter and more solemn, maybe it’s the trek up that minimizes its patrons or maybe its just paying another fee. For whatever reason, Batlag just seems more laidback, a different kind of grace.

Batlag is a much smaller place, so its waterfall is much smaller also, it couldn’t have been more than thirty feet in height, it was almost fountain-like, even the water came down gracefully. Besides the lush greenery you would also noticed there was much more younger vegetation still growing, these small tree sprouts are scattered all throughout which also surrounds the main pool where water from the waterfall first settles. Also there are much more multi-leveled pools of water formed by rocks surrounding the falls, which you can always turn into your own personal Jacuzzi if you choose to do so.

Almost labyrinth-like are its natural formations; you wouldn’t see what’s going on from end to end, albeit smaller in square meters. It seemed like a playground. You can easily pick a spot and you can claim it for yourself, well at least for a day or overnight.

We took our time there, my guide and myself, drinking water and mostly resting from the trek, I again picked a spot where I felt I could get the most out of the place and wrote down notes. We found a tiny island in the middle of the main pool, hopped across and stayed there for a while. But for some strange reason I couldn’t write nor could I think of any ideas, I just kept on looking at everything, I didn’t even feel like writing, I just wanted to sit there and take everything in, to shut my eyes, listen to all the sounds and relax. I couldn’t fight off the overwhelming calming effect the place has nor did I want to fight it off for that matter. I surrendered to it and just put my notebook back in my bag, sat back and took a deep breath. It just felt surreal, almost like a scene from a movie.

I later learned that it was a favorite spot for TV and movie producers to shoot their films or shows at and that I probably was feeling like it was a scene from a movie because I probably have seen it on screen. That really made me laugh inside, for a moment there I was truly lost in what I thought was a place so magical that I couldn’t even find the words to describe it.

Nonetheless, I am sure that the main reason it got picked as a favorite for the small and big screens is its serenity and calm. In my opinion, Batlag falls’ true charm.
